Cosmostation, long counted among the Cosmos ecosystem's largest non-custodial wallets, is discontinuing its wallet service starting September 1. After that date, the app will retain only its seed-phrase and private-key export functions, while every other feature — including staking, governance voting and in-app swaps — will be phased out.

Because Cosmostation is non-custodial, the wallet has never held user funds directly; assets remain on their respective Cosmos-ecosystem chains regardless of what happens to the app itself. That structural detail is the main reason the shutdown is being described as a service discontinuation rather than a shutdown risk for holders, provided users take the one action the deadline actually requires of them.

What Users Actually Need to Do

The practical requirement before September 1 is straightforward: export and securely back up the recovery phrase or private key tied to any Cosmostation-managed wallet. Those credentials are portable — they can be imported into any other compatible Cosmos ecosystem wallet, such as Keplr or Leap, to restore full access to staking, governance and transfers. Users who don't complete that export before the cutoff risk losing access permanently, since Cosmostation has said no recovery path will exist through the app once the wider feature set is retired.

Part of a Broader Wallet Consolidation

The move follows Cosmostation's earlier decision to end validator operations for several networks on July 1, and it fits a consolidation trend playing out across the Cosmos wallet landscape more broadly this year, as smaller or specialized wallet providers face rising operational costs and users increasingly concentrate around a handful of dominant apps. Leap and Keplr have both absorbed migrating users from similar shutdowns in recent months, making them the default landing spots for Cosmostation's user base as well.

For an ecosystem built on interoperability between dozens of independent chains, wallet-layer consolidation carries less systemic risk than it might in a more siloed environment — assets and staking positions live on-chain regardless of which front-end a user relies on to access them. Still, the shutdown removes one more distinct interface from a space that has already narrowed considerably since its peak of wallet options a few years ago.
