A long-dormant Bitcoin wallet has moved again, selling 1,400 BTC worth roughly $111.6 million after sitting untouched for four years. Crypto Banter reported the transaction, citing on-chain tracker Lookonchain, which flagged that the holder originally accumulated 2,200 BTC at an average price of $45,024 — meaning the wallet rode out the entire subsequent bear market and drawdown before finally taking profit near current levels.

The sale price implied by the reported figures works out to roughly $79,700 per BTC, putting the transaction almost exactly in line with Bitcoin's current trading range just under $80,000. The wallet still holds 800 BTC of its original position, meaning this looks like a partial profit-take rather than a full exit.

Reading the On-Chain Signal

Dormant-wallet awakenings are a closely watched category of on-chain data because they represent conviction being tested in real time: holders who bought during a bear market and never sold through the subsequent volatility are, by definition, some of the most patient capital in the market. When that capital starts moving, it can be read either as a bearish signal (long-term holders taking profit near a local top) or simply as routine portfolio rebalancing by an investor whose thesis has already played out several times over — this wallet's realized gain works out to roughly 77% on the portion sold, a return most holders would be comfortable partially banking regardless of near-term price direction.

Part of a Broader Pattern

This wallet is not an isolated case. Lookonchain's own dashboard has tracked a wave of multi-year-dormant wallets reactivating in 2026 as Bitcoin has pushed to new highs, with the firm noting that a large share of these large, aged-coin moves resolve as over-the-counter trades within 48 hours rather than direct exchange dumps — a pattern that tends to limit immediate price impact even when the dollar values involved are large.

What to Watch

The key question is whether the remaining 800 BTC in this wallet moves next, and whether other similarly aged wallets follow suit as Bitcoin approaches $80K. A cluster of dormant-wallet sales converging around the same price level would be a stronger signal of coordinated profit-taking than any single transaction on its own.
