A large Hyperliquid holder sold another 923,743 HYPE tokens, worth roughly $53.02 million, on August 14 — the second tranche of a distribution that on-chain data tracker Lookonchain has now been following for weeks. The same wallet sold 1.03 million HYPE for about $57.44 million two weeks earlier, and after this latest sale still holds 969,595 HYPE worth an estimated $55.5 million.
The wallet's position traces back to a much larger stake. On-chain trackers had previously flagged the same holder staking roughly 2.93 million HYPE, worth about $172 million at the time, positioning it as one of the more closely watched large holders on the network. The two sales tracked this month bring the total distributed down from that original position to well under a third of what the wallet once held, even as it retains a meaningful stake.
Selling Into Strength
The timing stands out because it runs against the token's own near-term technical setup. HYPE has been attempting to break out of a multi-week range, clearing its short-term and 100-day moving averages this week and climbing toward its 50-day average near $60.85, with momentum indicators recovering from oversold territory. A holder of this size distributing tens of millions of dollars into that strength is not unusual behavior for a large early position, but it does mean some of the buying pressure driving the breakout attempt is being met by a seller with substantial size still left to work through.
What It Signals, and What It Doesn't
A single large holder trimming a position is not, on its own, evidence of a change in sentiment toward Hyperliquid or HYPE more broadly — wallets of this size often sell in tranches for reasons unrelated to a view on price, from portfolio rebalancing to funding other positions. Not every large Hyperliquid holder is heading for the exits, either: on-chain trackers have also flagged a separate whale reopening a leveraged long position on the platform in the same stretch, a reminder that big wallets are positioned on both sides of the market at once. But traders watching HYPE's attempted breakout now have a concrete number to weigh against it: a specific, still-active seller with roughly $55.5 million in tokens left, and a recent track record of selling into rallies rather than holding through them.
