LIT, the governance token of perpetual futures exchange Lighter, climbed 9.23% to $2.39 on August 8, its highest print in three weeks, as an Ethereum-native whale extended a two-month buying spree now worth $9.1 million.
The wallet, identified as an early Ethereum holder, has accumulated 3.91 million LIT tokens since early June, according to on-chain tracking cited by AMBCrypto. Its most recent addition was a $1 million purchase made as the token pushed through resistance near $2.30, and the wallet has continued adding to the position rather than taking profit.
Volume and Positioning Turn Bullish
Spot trading volume jumped 53% to $49 million alongside the price move, while derivatives volume surged 77% to $131.18 million. Open interest rose 10% to $310 million, and the long-to-short ratio sits at 1.04 overall — above parity on Binance and just below it on OKX — pointing to traders positioning for continued upside rather than a reversal.
On-chain activity backs up the derivatives data. Active addresses interacting with LIT rose from 8,900 to 13,200 over the past week, while new daily addresses climbed from 388 to 493, suggesting the rally is drawing in participants beyond the whale wallet driving headlines.

Technicals Point to $2.70
LIT's Relative Strength Index reads 58, comfortably inside bullish territory without flashing overbought, and the Stochastic Momentum Index is rising in confirmation. Chart watchers see $2.70 as the next test if the token can hold above its three-week high of $2.40, though a rejection there would likely send price back toward the $2.20 zone where the whale has been accumulating.
Lighter's Broader Momentum
The rally comes as Lighter, often described as a challenger to Hyperliquid in the perpetual DEX race, has been expanding aggressively. The protocol has processed roughly $200 billion in 30-day trading volume, and its risk engine was stress-tested in February when an attempted long squeeze on its ARC perpetual market briefly generated $50 million in open interest and an $8.2 million loss for the losing side — a scenario Lighter's segregated liquidity design contained to roughly $75,000 in downside for its LP pool. That track record has helped LIT trade as high as $2.81 during earlier price discovery, a level the token would need to reclaim to fully erase its pullback from the highs.
With global crypto market capitalization holding near $2.29 trillion and Bitcoin dominance at 56.78%, LIT's move stands out against a broader altcoin market that has struggled to sustain rallies, making the whale's continued buying — and whether retail follows — the key variable for whether $2.70 gets tested in the near term.
