Trump Media & Technology Group disclosed holdings of roughly 14,139 BTC, including pledged coins, worth just over $900 million as of July 31 — an addition of about 4,662 BTC during the month worth roughly $333 million, according to the company's 10-Q filed with the SEC on August 10. The buildup came even as the Truth Social parent posted a net loss of $238.1 million for the second quarter, more than ten times its loss from a year earlier.

Of the total, 9,477 BTC sat unpledged at the end of June, with the remaining roughly 2,077 BTC pledged as collateral supporting an options strategy tied to the company's Truth.Fi financial services arm. The filing shows revenue of just $1.7 million for the quarter, with the loss driven largely by $190.4 million in non-cash unrealized losses across the company's digital asset and equity security holdings — a reminder that a bitcoin treasury strategy cuts both ways on the income statement when prices pull back.

A treasury strategy built into the business

Trump Media has increasingly leaned on its Truth.Fi division to formalize a bitcoin treasury strategy alongside its media operations, following a playbook other public companies have used to add crypto exposure to otherwise unrelated core businesses. The July additions pushed the company's stack higher for a fourth straight month, even as unrealized losses on the existing position weighed on reported earnings.

Tom Lee's Bitmine has run a similar accumulation strategy on the ether side, building a multi-week buying streak despite volatile prices — part of a broader pattern of public companies treating a rolling crypto position as a core corporate asset rather than a one-off allocation.

The math behind the loss

Because unrealized losses on digital assets flow directly through the income statement under current accounting rules, a wider quarterly loss doesn't necessarily reflect operational deterioration — it can simply track bitcoin's price move over the reporting period. Trump Media's underlying media business generated minimal revenue in the quarter, meaning the digital asset swings dominate the headline numbers almost entirely.

With the position now worth over $900 million and growing, Trump Media's quarterly results are likely to keep tracking bitcoin's price about as closely as they track Truth Social's own performance.
