Zcash extended its month-long rally into fresh territory, climbing 12% in a single day to a new high near $819 and pushing its 30-day gain past 63%. 10x Research noted that few assets in the market have moved this fast, this consistently, calling Zcash one of its top altcoin picks after the token posted a new high following what it described as a monster run.

The catalyst is a concrete regulatory step rather than pure momentum trading. Grayscale filed its fifth amended registration statement for a proposed spot Zcash ETF with the SEC on August 21, and the filing itself fills in details that had been left open in earlier versions: the Grayscale Zcash Trust would be renamed The Zcash ETF and list on NYSE Arca under the ticker ZCSH, with Grayscale proposing a 2.5% annual sponsor fee, Bank of New York Mellon serving as transfer agent, and Coinbase Custody Trust Company acting as custodian.

From 8-Year High to Fresh Record

ZEC had already broken an eight-year high earlier in the rally, but Friday's move pushed it into territory the token hasn't traded at since 2018, briefly touching levels above $850 intraday before settling back near $780-820. That price action reflects a market treating the ETF filing less as a formality and more as a genuine countdown: while the amendment doesn't represent SEC approval, it moves the proposed product meaningfully closer to a potential launch, and would mark the first U.S. spot ETF built around a privacy-focused cryptocurrency if it clears.

Privacy as an Investment Thesis

The rally has also drawn attention from investors who see privacy itself as an underpriced feature in digital assets, with Zcash positioned as the most mature implementation among privacy-preserving blockchains. That framing has picked up institutional interest alongside the ETF news: reporting around the filing has also referenced nonbinding talks between Grayscale and DCG International Investments over a potential contribution of roughly 200,000 ZEC to the trust once its registration becomes effective, which would meaningfully deepen the fund's holdings ahead of any listing.

What Comes Next

The SEC still needs to formally approve the S-3 conversion before The Zcash ETF can list, and prior amendments to the filing show the agency has continued pushing for additional structural detail rather than moving straight to a decision. Until that approval lands, ZEC's price is likely to stay sensitive to every incremental filing update, the same pattern that has driven each of the token's recent legs higher.
