Highlights
- Ether: 42.34% — Grayscale's largest allocation in the new ex-bitcoin model portfolio
- XRP: 26.11%, Solana: 21.09% — together with ETH, roughly 89% of the total mix
- Hyperliquid: 5.76%, with Chainlink, Avalanche and Sui splitting the remainder
- No separate fee for the model itself; underlying fund expenses average 0.23%
Grayscale has spent over a decade building its brand on bitcoin exposure, so its newest product for financial advisors is a deliberate departure: a model portfolio that holds no bitcoin at all. The asset manager's newly announced Grayscale Model Portfolios suite includes a strategy called Digital Assets Next Gen, built specifically for advisors who already have bitcoin covered elsewhere in a client's book and want diversified exposure to everything built on top of it.
The allocation is a clear statement about where Grayscale sees the next leg of institutional demand heading. As of August 31 data, Ether leads the portfolio at 42.34%, more than double the weight of any other single asset. XRP comes in second at 26.11%, and Solana rounds out the top three at 21.09% — together, those three assets account for roughly 89% of the entire model. Hyperliquid takes 5.76%, with the remaining sliver split across Chainlink, Avalanche and Sui.

The mechanics behind that mix matter as much as the numbers themselves. The portfolio is market-cap weighted and rebalanced quarterly, with a 40% cap on any single asset's weighting — a structural guardrail meant to prevent any one token's rally (or crash) from dominating client outcomes the way an uncapped, pure market-cap model might allow. Grayscale isn't charging advisors a separate fee to access the model itself; the only costs flow through the underlying funds, which carry an average expense ratio of 0.23%. Distribution runs through Grayscale Advisors LLC, which will push the models out to financial platforms that can then make them available to advisors managing client accounts directly.
The launch lands at a moment when advisor adoption of crypto remains thin relative to investor demand. A recent Bitwise poll found two-thirds of wealth managers still hold zero crypto in client portfolios, a gap Grayscale's pre-packaged, quarterly-rebalanced model is explicitly designed to close by removing the operational burden of building a diversified digital-asset allocation from scratch. As BeInCrypto noted, giving XRP a larger weighting than Solana is itself a notable signal about how Grayscale's research team is currently ranking relative conviction across major layer-1 and payments-focused tokens — a ranking that will only be tested once real advisor capital starts flowing through the model.
