Robinhood shares fell 4% in after-hours trading on Wednesday and slipped a further 3.1% in the regular session that followed, even after the brokerage posted a second-quarter earnings beat. The selloff centered on one line item investors have grown increasingly sensitive to: crypto trading revenue, which came in at $100 million, down 38% from $160 million in the same quarter last year.

The headline numbers otherwise painted a strong quarter. Robinhood reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.62, well above the $0.43 analysts had penciled in, on revenue of $1.31 billion, up 32% year-over-year and ahead of the $1.29 billion consensus forecast. It was a record quarterly revenue figure for the company, driven largely by strength outside of crypto.

Prediction Markets and Options Pick Up the Slack

Options trading, equities, and prediction markets all posted stronger results, offsetting the pullback in digital-asset activity. The prediction markets business in particular has become a meaningful contributor to Robinhood's top line as event contracts have drawn steady retail interest, helping cushion the blow from a quieter crypto trading environment industry-wide.

The divergence highlights how reliant Robinhood's crypto segment has become on trading volume and volatility rather than steady account growth. When crypto markets cool off, as they did through the second quarter, the revenue line tied to trading commissions and spreads cools with them, even as the rest of the platform's business lines continue to expand.

New Products in the Pipeline

Robinhood used the earnings release to spotlight upcoming product initiatives, including Robinhood Chain, a blockchain network built to support tokenized U.S. stocks for European customers, and an agentic trading feature that would let AI-driven assistants execute trades on a user's behalf within preset spending limits and approval controls.

CEO Vlad Tenev framed the pipeline as part of a broader push to expand who has access to markets.

Whether it's the Robinhood Chain, Robinhood Ventures, or Trump Accounts, our product velocity is focused on one goal: making everyone an owner.

For now, investors appear to be weighing that longer-term roadmap against the near-term reality of a shrinking crypto revenue base, a tension that shows in Wednesday's decline despite the company clearing Wall Street's earnings bar.
