Highlights

  • X is preparing to add native buy and sell buttons for crypto directly on posts, according to Nikita Bier.
  • The feature would let X's 500 million-plus users initiate crypto trades without leaving the timeline.
  • It builds on Smart Cashtags, launched in April 2026, which already show live Solana and Ethereum price charts inside posts.
  • No launch date has been set, and the announcement has not been officially confirmed by X as a company.
  • Bier, who is stepping back from his day-to-day product role at X, made the disclosure in a personal post.

X is moving to close the gap between reading about a token and actually buying it. According to a post from Coin Bureau, Nikita Bier confirmed the platform will soon add native trade buttons that let users buy and sell crypto directly from the timeline. With X's user base exceeding 500 million, the feature would turn ordinary posts into a direct gateway to on-platform trading for a substantial share of the platform's audience.

Bier, the outgoing head of product at X, disclosed the plan in his own words: as reported by The Crypto Times, he said, "I literally built Cashtags, allowing people to add Solana and Ethereum charts directly into posts — with trade buttons coming soon." Smart Cashtags themselves launched in April 2026, letting users embed live price charts by typing a dollar-sign ticker like $SOL or pasting a token's contract address, with X automatically generating pricing data for newly minted tokens. Trade buttons would be the natural next step: turning a chart a user is already looking at into a one-tap execution point. No launch date has been announced, and the feature remains unconfirmed by X as a company beyond Bier's personal remarks.

Part of a Broader Finance Push

The move fits Elon Musk's long-stated ambition to turn X into an all-in-one platform spanning media, payments and financial services, an effort that has included X Money and steadily expanding Cashtag coverage. Notably, Bier has pushed back on the idea that recent crypto strength stems from platform-level changes to content moderation, attributing the rally instead to broader macroeconomic drivers — specifically, US Treasury bond buybacks — a distinction that separates X's product roadmap from any claim that the company is actively juicing token prices through its own feed.

Why It Matters for Exchanges and Token Discovery

If shipped, in-post trade buttons would put X in direct competition with the discovery-to-execution flow that centralized exchanges and DEX aggregators currently own, similar in spirit to how Binance has been expanding the range of assets traders can access without leaving its own platform. For newer or thinly traded tokens, a contract-address-aware trade button embedded in viral posts could meaningfully compress the time between a token trending and its first wave of on-chain buy pressure — a dynamic that has already shaped memecoin cycles on Solana and could become far more pronounced once X's reach is directly wired into it.

What to Watch

The key unknowns are timing and custody: whether X routes trades through a partner exchange, a non-custodial wallet integration, or its own infrastructure, and whether the feature launches broadly or in a limited regional rollout first. Any official confirmation from X itself, rather than commentary from a departing product lead, would be the next concrete signal that trade buttons are close to shipping rather than still an internal roadmap item.
