Avalanche's AVAX has strung together four consecutive days of gains, breaking above a multi-week pennant pattern near $7.15 and climbing back above its key exponential moving averages in the process. Traders are now watching whether the move has enough force to clear $9, a level that would open the door to a retest of $10.

The breakout isn't happening in a vacuum. Avalanche's network DEX volume hit $141.61 million over the past 24 hours, a new monthly high that suggests the price move is being backed by genuine onchain activity rather than thin, low-liquidity trading.

Whale Orders Cluster, But Direction Is Unclear

Average order size data shows large orders clustering near AVAX's current price — typically a signal that bigger players are active around this level. What isn't clear yet is whether that activity represents accumulation ahead of a further move up or distribution into strength, and traders will likely need a few more sessions of order-flow data to tell the difference.

Heavy Long Positioning Is a Double-Edged Sword

The derivatives market is leaning hard in one direction: long accounts represent roughly 70% of tracked trader positioning on AVAX, according to exchange data cited in the original report. That kind of one-sided bias tends to accelerate a rally when price is climbing, but it also builds up exactly the kind of leverage that unwinds violently if the advance stalls — a sharp rejection at $9 could trigger a long squeeze that wipes out a chunk of that positioning in minutes.

The rally also lands against the backdrop of Avalanche's biggest network overhaul to date. The Avalanche9000 upgrade, which went live earlier this year, cut the cost of deploying a sovereign Avalanche L1 by roughly 99.9% and replaced the old requirement to stake 2,000 AVAX per subnet with a smaller continuous validation fee. That change has been credited with accelerating L1 launches on the network and is one of the fundamentals bulls point to when arguing the current move has more behind it than short-term momentum trading.

Avalanche isn't the only large-cap altcoin breaking out of a multi-week range this month — Solana cleared $100 for the first time since February on a similar mix of technical breakout and rising network activity, a pattern that's shown up across several layer-1 tokens as broader risk appetite has improved.

For now, $9 remains the level to watch. A clean break would put AVAX on track for its highest price since earlier in the year, while a rejection there — especially given how lopsided long positioning already is — could turn a four-day rally into a sharp, fast reversal.
