Bitcoin is trading around $66,956 as of July 21, sitting just below the $67,292 swing high it has yet to break through. Analysts are now pointing to two levels on either side of that range, $61,000 and $67,000, as the zones that will likely decide BTC's next major move heading into a critical macroeconomic window at the end of the month.
The setup follows a pullback to $63.9k after price failed to clear resistance, part of a broader bearish swing structure that has held on the daily timeframe since October even as Bitcoin continues to trade within a rising channel.
What Happens Above $67.2K or Below $63.7K
A decisive breach of $67.2k, which currently caps the market as the key resistance zone, would open the door to a rally toward $73,000-$77,000, according to the analysis. On the downside, a breakdown below $63.7k would put $61,000 in play first, a level that buyers have defended through 2026, before exposing the $57,800 demand zone that marks the prior swing low.
Liquidation data adds another layer to the picture: a buildup of long positions sits around $63.5k, while short liquidations are clustered near $67.1k, meaning a sharp move in either direction could accelerate as those positions get forced out.
Positioning and On-Chain Signals
Funding rates remain positive and long volume slightly outnumbers short positions, suggesting traders are still leaning bullish despite the choppy price action. Miner selling pressure has also declined, while whale wallets have been accumulating from centralized exchanges, according to Bitcoin Binance reserve realized price data highlighted by analyst Joao Wedson.
Analyst Ibrahim Cosart, addressing the macro backdrop, flagged a 48-hour window around two upcoming events, the Federal Reserve's rate decision on July 29 and Personal Consumption Expenditure data on July 30, as the period most likely to determine which of the two levels breaks first. As Cosart put it, “managing risk will matter more than making directional bets” during that stretch.
Why the Range Matters
With Bitcoin pinned between a defended $61k floor and a stubborn $67.2k ceiling, the coming Fed decision and inflation print carry outsized weight for short-term direction. A hawkish surprise or hotter-than-expected PCE reading could tip price toward the $63.5k long liquidation zone, while a dovish tone or soft inflation data could fuel the push through resistance that bulls have been waiting for since October.
