Three of the largest spot XRP ETF issuers put fresh money to work on August 25, buying a combined $13.82 million worth of XRP in a single session. Whale Insider reported that Bitwise, Franklin Templeton and Canary Capital's ETF clients were behind the purchases, one of the more concentrated single-day buys the category has seen since its early-year launch.
A Notable Buy Against a Weak Backdrop
The timing matters because XRP ETF demand has been fading for months. Data compiled by TradingNews shows monthly inflows collapsed from $131.94 million in May to $59.46 million in June and just $27.29 million in July — a roughly 79% decline in two months — with zero net flows recorded on 11 of July's 22 trading days. Cumulative inflows since launch still total around $1.51 billion, but current assets under management sit near $993 million, a gap largely explained by XRP's price falling about 40% year-to-date. Bitwise's XRPI remains the category leader with $510 million in cumulative inflows, followed by Canary's XRPC at $468 million and Franklin's XRPZ at $427 million — together controlling roughly 82% of category assets.
What a One-Day Pickup Signals
A single day of buying doesn't reverse a multi-month slowdown, but $13.82 million spread across three issuers is large relative to the roughly $1 million weekly totals the category was posting in early August. It suggests at least some institutional desks are treating XRP's recent price action as a buying opportunity rather than a reason to keep sitting out, and it comes as XRP ETFs strengthen their case as a proxy for regulated, exchange-traded exposure to the token now that court and regulatory overhangs have largely cleared.
What Would Confirm a Real Trend Shift
The next few trading sessions will show whether this is a one-off or the start of a sustained pickup. A repeat of similar-sized inflows over consecutive days would mark a genuine break from the summer's pattern of near-zero flows; a reversion to the $1 million weekly pace seen earlier in August would suggest the August 25 buy was an isolated rebalancing move rather than a shift in institutional appetite for XRP exposure.
